Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The deceased was discovered on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at approximately 7:17 p.m.
The victim will be identified upon notification of next of kin.
Officers from the West Precinct responded to 1712 Maple Ave on a call of a person down. Upon arrival Officers discovered the victim laying in the yard unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue and Jefferson County Coroner arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
Details are limited in this investigation. There are no suspect(s) in custody and detectives have not established a motive in this investigation. This is an ongoing investigation. Additional details will be provided as they come available.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
