Public’s Assistance with the Ryan Johnson Homicide Investigation
Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide that occurred on Sunday, April 23, 2023, that claimed the life of Ryan Johnson.
At approximately 1:15 AM, a BPD officer was working in an off-duty capacity at a nightclub in the 100 Block of 3rd Avenue North when he heard shots fired in the area.
Upon further investigation, he observed the victim lying near a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests a group of males were involved in an argument that led to shots be fired in the roadway.
Ryan Johnson was an innocent bystander who was caught in the crossfire.
