Officer Involved Shooting/ Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports an officer involved shooting investigation and homicide investigation is underway. The incident occurred on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the University Crossings Apartment Complex.
Just after 5:00 p.m., officers from the South Precinct responded to hostage situation in the 200 block of 3rd Street SW. Upon arrival, officers observed a female subject shoot a male in the officer’s presence resulting in his death. An officer discharged his weapon striking the female subject. The female was transported to a local area hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue with non-life- threatening injuries. There were no officers injured during this incident.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be the lead investigative agency in the officer involved shooting and the homicide investigation. Officers involved in this incident will be placed on administrative leave per the Birmingham Police Department’s Policies and Procedures.
