Unclassified Death Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an unclassified death investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, March 5, 2021. The victim will be identified upon notice to the next of kin.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 100 block of Woodstation Place on report of an apartment fire. Birmingham Fire & Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames. Birmingham Fire & Rescue personnel conducted a search of the apartment where they located a victim lying unresponsive near a doorway. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
BPD detectives are working to determine if foul play was involved in this incident. The Jefferson County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on the victim to determine a cause of death.
