Arrest Made in the Ingemar Cleggett Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Ingemar Cleggett. He was shot and killed on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in the 10 Block of 15th Avenue West.

The suspect has been identified as:

Kelvin Jenkins, (45), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

The preliminary investigation suggests North Precinct officers responded to a Person Shot call around 2 p.m., in the exact area.

Kelvin Jenkins was shot and BFR personnel transported him to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At around 6:30 p.m., a loved one discovered Ingemar Cleggett inside his residence deceased from a gunshot wound.

Currently, we believe Mr. Cleggett may have been shot during an exchange of gunfire with Kelvin Jenkins in the 1st shooting incident.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder (Victim shot while inside a residence).

Kelvin Jenkins is in police custody at UAB Hospital. Once released, he will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail (No Bond).

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Ingermar Liquori Kuwait Cleggett, (47), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at a residence in the 10 Block of 15th Avenue West.

Officers arrived on the scene and then entered a residence when they observe the victim lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased

The preliminary investigation suggests North Precinct officers responded to a Person Shot call around 2 p.m., in the exact area.

An adult male was shot and BFR personnel transported him to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Currently, we believe Mr. Cleggett may have been shot during an exchange of gunfire with the other gunshot victim and then later discovered by a loved one.

The first gunshot victim is in police custody at UAB Hospital.
