Media Release 78- Homicide Investigation- 5th Avenue North
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
The victim is a black female that has not been positively identified.
At approximately 8:15 AM, East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 8400 Block of 5th Avenue North on report of an abandoned vehicle. A caller noticed a Blue 4-Door sedan that had been abandoned in a field for at least one day.
Officers arrived on the scene and approached the vehicle; they observed a female unresponsive inside the vehicle.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests foul play is involved and this case is being classified as a homicide.
The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
