The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Anthony Lambert Jr., (21), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Shot Spotter alert in the 5700 Block of Avenue I. Officers were updated that a person was lying unresponsive in the front yard of a residence in the 900 Block of 58th Street Ensley.

Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying in the front yard of the residence suffering from visible signs of trauma.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in an argument with one or more adult males. One or more of the adult males fired shots at the victim. The males fled the scene.

Birmingham 911 Communications Division notified our officers that an adult male was en route to BPD Headquarters to turn himself in.

Officers made contact with the male at BPD Headquarters.

BPD Homicide detectives will interview the male; detectives will then present case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office who will decide if criminal charges should be filed. Anyone who has information on the case, please contact B.P.D.’s Homicide Unit @ 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers @ 205-254-7777.

Crime Stoppers pays tipsters cash rewards of up to $5,000 for their tips.

This is Birmingham’s 38 murder investigation of 2024 with 4 justifiable death rulings.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
