Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
Richard Edwards Jr., (44), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at a residence in the 10 Block of Holt Avenue.
Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying unresponsive in the yard of the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests a community member heard gunshots in the area and then dialed 911.
Detectives are working to determine a motive for the shooting.
There is no one in custody.
