Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
The victim will be identified upon notification of next of kin.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to the 500 block of Jersey Street in the Wylam community. The 911 Communication Division received a call of a fire in the area. Officers arrived and discovered the body of a male on fire. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Details are limited in this investigation. Detectives have not established a clear motive in this homicide. No arrest has been made.
This is Birmingham’s 36th murder investigation of 2022 including 4 justifiable death investigations.
