Detective Locates Person of Interest in Recent Shooting Leading to Standoff
On Friday, April 14, 2023, an adult male was shot in the 1000 Block of Vinesville Road. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported him to UAB Hospital; he is expected to survive.
On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at around 3:30 PM, a BPD Felony Assault detective was actively searching for a person of interest in the shooting.
Our detective located the person of interest in the 1700 Block of Lee Avenue. The person of interest fled into a residence armed with a handgun.
West Precinct officers and Birmingham City Wide Traffic Task Force officers responded to the location to assist.
At around 7:00 PM, officers were able to talk the suspect into exiting the residence and surrendering. The suspect was taken into custody free of any incident.
No one was injured during the standoff.
The person of interest is an adult male; patrol officers transported him to the Birmingham City Jail and placed him under a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Attempted Murder, stemming from the original incident.
