Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, April 16, 2020.

The victim has been identified as

Deondray Reese, (28), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 6:11p.m., Officer from the North Precinct responded to I-20/59 northbound at the Elton B. Stephens access ramp. Officer arrived and discovered a black SUV stalled in the middle lane, riddled with bullet holes. Upon further investigation, officers discovered a male in the driver’s seat unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue and Jefferson County coroner reported to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was traveling northbound on I-20/59, when the suspect(s) in an unknown vehicle fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. Detectives have not established a motive in this investigation and are working to develop additional leads. There are no suspect(s) in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 28th homicide investigation of 2020 and 4 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
