Media Release 82- 5-Year-Old Injured by Gunfire

Two People Shot Including a 5-Year-Old Girl

The Birmingham Police Department has launched an Assault investigation after two people were shot including a 5-year-old girl.

On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at around 8:00 PM, Community Safety Partnership officers and North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 3000 Block of 29th Avenue North (Collegeville Housing Community) on report of a person shot.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed an adult female and her 5-year-old daughter in the front yard of an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel transported the adult female to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; BFR transported the 5-year-old child to Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests multiple suspects fired gunshots toward the victims and then fled the scene.

There is no one in custody.

This was a targeted incident. Officers recovered over 70 spent shell rifle/handgun shell casings from the scene.
