Media Release 85- Homicide Investigation-Bankhead Highway
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
Le’Kameren Deru, (22), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 10:20 PM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to 901 Bankhead Highway West on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene when they observed a vehicle riddled with bullets. Officers observed two males suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced one of the males deceased. BFR transported a second male to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests a separate vehicle pulled alongside the victims’ vehicle and began firing shots. The suspect(s) struck the victims as well as multiple occupied vehicles.
Currently, there is no one in custody.
