Arrest Made in 2021 Double Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Anthony Murray and Ronald Smith Jr. who were shot and killed in the 1100 Block of 33rd Street Southwest on Friday, November 12, 2021.
The suspect has been identified as:
Koreon Daisean Johnson, (19), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
BPD Homicide detectives continued to follow up on leads in this case.
On Thursday, April 27, 2023, Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder.
The U.S. Marshal’s Task Force arrested Koreon Johnson.
Koreon Johnson is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

Double Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, November 12, 2021, at the Serenity Apartments at Valley Creek located in the 1100 block of 33rd Street SW.
The victims have been identified as:
- Anthony Murray, (22), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.
- Ronald Deshawn Smith Jr., (24), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to a ShotSpotter call of over 30 rounds fired. Upon arrival, officers encountered two adult males who were outside of a vehicle wounded by gunfire. Both males were transported to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Upon further investigation, officers found two males in the backseat of a vehicle unresponsive suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

This is Birmingham’s 92nd and 93rd murder investigation of 2021 with 12 justifiable death investigations.
