Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
Jamie Gibson, (16), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 6:15 PM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to the intersection of Overton Road @ Liberty Parkway on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene when they were met by Vestavia PD. Vestavia officers stated a male gunshot victim was transported to Grandview Hospital via Vestavia Fire & Rescue.
The victim was pronounced deceased at Grandview Hospital.
The preliminary investigation suggests witnesses observed an unknown sedan travelling on I-459 North’s off ramp when shots were fired. The victim then exited the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The suspect’s vehicle fled the scene.
Currently, details are limited. There is no one in custody.
