Arrest Made in the Kamaree Phillips Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of 17-year-old Kamaree Phillips. Kamaree Phillips was shot and killed on April 1, 2023, at the Magnolia Court apartments located at #3 Westchester Court.

The suspect has been identified as:

A 16-year-old male juvenile whose name is withheld.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, BPD Tactical Operations Precinct officers executed a search warrant at a residence in East Birmingham; officers took the suspect into custody.

On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, BPD Homicide detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder (Robbery).

Due to the suspect’s age at the time of the offense and the alleged offense committed, he will be tried as an adult.

The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 65)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Kamaree Shondale Phillips, (17), B/M, of Clay, Alabama.

At 4:10 PM, East Precinct officers were dispatched to the Magnolia Court Apartments (#3 Westchester Court) on report of a Person Shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying outside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to St. Vincent’s East for immediate medical care. The victim was pronounced deceased by St. Vincent’s Hospital Staff.

The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was sitting inside a vehicle when he was approached by an unknown suspect.

The suspect fired shots at the victim and then fled the scene.

There is no one in custody.
