Father and Juvenile Son Shot in West Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department has launched an assault investigation after a father and his juvenile son were shot in West Birmingham. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Just before 2 p.m. West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Shot Spotter alert in the 1500 Block of Cullman Avenue.

Officers were updated that a person was shot at the location. Officers arrived on the scene and observed an adult male lying in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived and transported the victim to UAB Hospital.

Officers learned a juvenile gunshot victim arrived at Fire Station 16 (2001 Avenue I) by private vehicle. Officers arrived at Fire Station 16 and then observed a juvenile male 11-12 years old suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

BFR personnel transported the juvenile to Children’s Hospital.

Both victims suffered serious injuries but are expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victims were shot in a targeted shooting. Detectives are working to determine the motive in this shooting.

There is no one in custody.
