Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday May 16, 2020.
The victim has not been identified due to notification of next of kin.
At approximately 3:00 a.m., Officer from the North precinct responded to a call of a person stabbed at the Fire House Shelter located at 626 2nd Ave North. Upon arrival officers observed the victim in the lobby area with multiple lacerations and punctures wounds unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue as well as Jefferson County Coroner responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
The preliminary investigation suggest the victim was stabbed multiple times by another resident of the Fire House Shelter. Shortly after a suspect was taken into custody at the Greyhound Bus Station. The suspect was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and will be transported to Birmingham Police Department Headquarters for questioning. Thus far, detectives have not established a motive in this homicide. This is an ongoing investigation.
