Media Release 127-Homicide Investigation -200 block of 6th Place North

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, June 27, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Benjamin Lee Doaks, 59, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. 

At approximately 8:40 p.m., officers from North Precinct responded to a person down in the 200 block of 6th Place North. Officers arrived and observed the victim lying in the roadway unresponsive. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim sustained injuries during a physical altercation which resulted in his death. No arrest has been made nor has detectives established a clear motive. Updates will be provided as this case develops.

This is Birmingham’s 62nd murder investigation of 2022 including 5 justifiable death investigations.

FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
