Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, February 26, 2024.
The victim has been identified as:
Mahogany Jaquise Jackson, (20), B/F, of Jasper, Alabama.
At approximately 2:19 a.m. South Precinct Officers were responding to a call of a deceased person on the side of the road at 17th Street SW and Laurel Avenue.
When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the victim lying unresponsive on the side of the road, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests that a citizen observed the victim lying on the side of the road and called 911 Emergency Services.
The victim was reported missing on Sunday, February 25, 2024, by a family member.
There is no on in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 15th murder investigation of 2024 with 1 justifiable death investigation.
