Lieutenant John Green is a Birmingham, AL native with 15 years of combined law enforcement experience. He has been a Police Officer since 2005. He began his career with the Bessemer Police Department, before leaving in 2007 to join the Birmingham Police Department. He served in the Birmingham Police Department as a Patrol Officer, High Intensity Community Oriented Policing Program (H.I.C.O.P.P) Officer, Task Force team member, Undercover Narcotics Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Intelligence Sergeant, REACT Team Sergeant and Vice/Narcotics Sergeant. During his tenure as an Undercover Narcotics Investigator, he led several missions, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies (local and federal), in efforts to uncover human trafficking and other large-scale operations. As a Narcotics Sergeant, he led one of the most successful narcotics units in the region. As a Criminal Intelligence Sergeant, he supervised numerous covert operations to combat organized crime and other serious criminal activity throughout the metro Birmingham area. He is currently a Shift Commander at East Precinct.
Lieutenant Green attended Woodlawn High School and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 1997. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Miles College in Fairfield, AL.
His special training includes, but not limited to, Bessemer SWAT School, Birmingham SWAT School, APOSTC Regional Advanced SWAT School, Basic Narcotics Investigations, Undercover Ops, Special Ops, Child and Adult Human Trafficking, Criminal Highway Interdiction and Riot Control Tactics.
Lieutenant Green was awarded the Outstanding Citizens Award and medal by the Elyton community and Birmingham City Council in 2009.
