Lieutenant Rebeca Herrera has 19 years of Law Enforcement experience with the Birmingham Police Department. She began training at the Birmingham Police Academy on November 29, 2004.
Lieutenant Herrera was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on July 19, 2019 and was assigned as the Day Shift Commander at the North Precinct. She has been assigned as the Commander of the Special Victims Unit since January 2021.
During her tenure at the Birmingham Police Department, she has worked a variety of assignments, including Patrol, Investigations, Federal Task Force, and Internal Affairs. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. She currently serves on the board of the YWCA of Birmingham.
