Captain Joe Roberts

Captain Joe Roberts has served with the Birmingham Police Department for 30 years in various assignments. Captain Roberts began his career in July of 1993 and was assigned to North Precinct as a Patrol Officer, Firearms Instructor, and PPCT Instructor. In January 2005, Captain Roberts was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to South Precinct, where he served as a shift supervisor over Hi-Cop, South Task Force, and Patrol. Captain Roberts was promoted to Lieutenant in 2013 and transferred to North Precinct as evening shift Commander. Captain Roberts was promoted in 2019 to the rank of Captain and assigned to Crimes Against Persons, where he supervised Crimes Against Person Division. Captain Roberts was transferred to South Precinct in 2021, where he currently serves as Commander.

Captain Roberts has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Captain Roberts is APOST certified and has several certifications in various law enforcement fields.

Captain Roberts is happily married and the father of one son. He enjoys camping, traveling, and time with his family.
